Why did I choose my career?
When I was
a child, I wanted to be a singer and a dancer. I also loved animals, until now,
so I wanted to be a veterinary. I think
that I was interested in those topics because I was influenced by my family,
because all the members of my family like and made music and art, but not in a
professionally way.
When I had to make
a choice about my career, I was a little confused. I liked very much Psychology,
but I was better at sciences like Math, Chemistry and Biology. I also was good at Philosophy, but in History not so much. So I didn’t know what career choose.
I knew that I loved in general terms the sciences of the mind. I was interested
in the knowledge of the human being and in reflecting about why we think, feel, or
do in a certain way. So I chose a career that has a little of Philosophy, and
Science, and that has as a central topic the human behavior and the subjectivity.
So I chose Psychology.
My experience
at university it was very good at the beginning because there are a lot of
critical subjects that make you reflect
and question your ways of thinking, that in the most of the case, hurts your
mental health, and that conditioned by a prevailing ideology. And to me, being aware of that, it’s so important because your way of thinking is not natural,
and knowing that, helps to our mental health and to be able, even a small step
forwards is, to change the prevailing ideology.
But the
last years of my career haven´t been so good because the subjects aren’t critical
and the contents are treated superficially.
From a social
point of view, I can say that I had made very good friends that support me in everything.
About the
kind of job that I´d like to have I haven't decided yet, but I think that I’d like
a job where I choose my own timetable. So it will be great to practice in a private way, also because of economic
reasons. However, doing only this, I think
that I would feel frustrated, because,
one of the most important reasons that I like my career is “help” people with
his emotional pain or with his mental health, so I think that I would spend part of my time working as a volunteer in some organization, or community. But doing both things probably it will difficult,
so I think that I’d like to work in an institution like SENAME for example.
However, I haven’t decided yet.
yes! university has a way of making you realize a lot of problematic thoughts that we don't think are a problem because of the way society works.
